Even though we’ve lost our original adviser, the club isn’t going away just yet. Professor Kristie Bruzenak (currently teaching Drawing for Scientific Illustration and Introduction to Scientific Illustration) has been kind enough to become our new faculty adviser. She has many ideas for fun future events for the club, including workshops and feature speakers.
Myself and the officers are working to get everything back up and running, so please be patient with us!
-Sarah.

Good Afternoon, everyone.
I am sorry about this announcement, but Professor Hudson is no longer teaching at SCAD. I have no idea as to why he is gone or where he went to. With any luck, he is still in Savannah, or is having a good time digging up dinosaurs somewhere.
That being said, I’m going to try to make this club continue. I have already approached another Professor to be the new club adviser.
I’ll see you all at the start of term and I will keep you updated on when the next meeting is, and when we get a new faculty adviser.
Sarah O’Connell,
Society of Scientific Illustrators.

Sorry guys! Apparently over half the officers (and Hudson) can’t make it. Y’all are still welcome to go hang out, though. We’ll meet properly next week instead, and I’m so sorry for the short notice. D:
This is your friendly neighborhood reminder post for Friday’s meeting! In case we haven’t said so yet, we’re now meeting biweekly. We don’t have anything specific scheduled besides some organizational stuff and general hanging-out-with-other-cool-scientific-illustrators. Pretty low-key in honor of the impending finals, might be short. Most importantly, we’ll be DISCUSSING LOGOS so if you have a design (even just a sketch!) for us, please do bring it along!
Hello all, yet another update. This week’s meeting has been cancelled due to our lovely faculty adviser giving a speech to the SCAD Concept Art Club, which many of our officers also wish to attend. It’s about dinosaurs (though I won’t spoil the specifics for you).
So see you guys in Morris on Friday with SCAC, or at next week’s meeting. :)
ALSO!
So far I have only received two logo designs. Since last week we were all kind of overwhelmed by pizza & Jurassic Park, and we won’t meet this week, you now have until next Friday (the 26th) to come up with something good. E-mail submissions to sosiclub@scad.edu. Happy drawing!

Sorry for the double update, but I just want to reiterate these things regarding the logo contest.
IF YOU ARE SUBMITTING A LOGO (taken mostly from the ICC blog):
Please submit your design by e-mail to sosiclub@scad.edu before the morning of October 12th. This is so that the officers might have a chance to compile a digital folder of all the submissions for your viewing pleasure. If possible, please have it be a vector file (better for graphic design purposes), or at least a raster file of decent size (and also of decent print quality, i.e. 300 dpi or greater).
If you don’t make something I’m sure our faculty adviser will be more than happy to take up the challenge and do something crazy and Hudsonlike. Dinosaurs, space and shit, y’all.

Here’s a brief recap of events and a rough idea of what is to come!
And that was about it! Next week we are having a Post-Midterm Party. That is to say, Jurassic Park and pizza. Depending on how the ICC feels, we may even have a popcorn machine too. Expect another post on that soon.
At our meeting this past Friday we mentioned that we are holding a logo contest. Submissions should look good in both black&white and color, reflect the breadth of our club’s interests (by which I mean: keep in mind we’re not just about paleo art or just about botanical art or what-have-you, regardless of your personal focus), and most importantly should contain both “Society of Scientific Illustrators” and “SCAD” somewhere in the design. Submit your design by email (sosiclub@scad.edu) before our October 12th meeting so we can chose the best one. Files submitted should be print quality.
Not yet sure how the final design will be chosen. Possibly there will be voting involved, because everyone loves democracy.

In other news, I just sent out a mass email to all those whose email addresses I have on The List. If you didn’t get said email and wish to, email us at the aforementioned address with your SCAD email to be added to The List.
Last reminder, I promise! Tomorrow (Friday, September 28th) from 4-6pm in Norris room 101, we will be having our first ever meeting.
We’re all so very excited, and looking forward to seeing you guys there! See this post for my talking cicada more info.

Also, welcome to all you new followers! If you missed it, earlier I said that I was trying to follow your artblogs with this blog, so I can start reblogging member art. If you are a SCAD student and have a dedicated artblog where you post scientific-y art, send the url my way (and/or links to individual posts of your sci illu work)! Thanks!
